2nd Lt. Robert H. Dolder headed the team that effected the rescue of a number of camps in the Tokyo area. Before the surrender, such teams were formed- some with parachute training- to be inserted in the POW camps at the time of the invasion, in hopes of saving the men from extermination.

These reports were completed upon his return to Manila.

1. Report on Kawasaki Camp #2 Bunsho

a. Location: Kawasaki Camp #2 Bunsho located in Kawasaki Bire [Fire] Brick Company area and 500 yards south of Electric Company in Kawasaki Ohimachi district.
b. Description of camp: Kawasaki Camp #2 was opened 12 September 1942 and closed 30 August 1945. There were 139 prisoners of war in the camp, 59 Americans, 25 British, 6 Australian, 44 Italian and 5 Norwegians. The prisoners of war worked in the Kawasaki Shipyard Electric Company and Kawasaki Fire Brick Company.

a. 25 Prisoners of war died in the camp, no record to their names and date of death.

3. Summary:

Japanese commanders in the camp were, Major Shohei Hamada, 1st Lt. Sumikatsu Hayashi, 2nd Lt. Yoshio Miyazaki, 1st Ly. Seitaro Washimi, 1st Lt. Sumikatsu Hayashi, 2nd Lt. Hidetshi Emori, 2nd Lt Ryugo Kanetsune. The non-commissioned officers in charge were, Sgt. Shotari Sunii, Sgt. Shoji Ozawa. There were 13 Japanese soldiers guarding the camp. The above information found by Recover y Team 56.
