Update
: This page is not maintained for corrections

No date specified but this list appears assembled with other documents regarding War Crime Trials and with lists of all POW camp staffs
dated 15 August 1945. Most likely updated well after the surrender. Many camps were missing from this list but MacArthur had extended list from the OSS. In addition, many movements of POWS in last months of the war were not documented carefully and, by order of the Japanese War Ministry, many records were deliberately burned to avoid prosecution for war crimes against the POWS. Most likely, this was assembled from combining both sources.  HOME

[For ease of understanding, the following definitions have been added by Roger Mansell]
Japanese Definitions:
Cho - town or district
Fu - city
Gun - District or sub-prefecture
Ken - prefecture
Ku - district; zone (division of a city)
Machi - town
Mura - village
Shi - city
Ura - Seacoast or Cove.
In 1941, there were three "Fu" and 43 "Ken". The three "Fu" were Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto therefore technically better to say Fu/Ken. Cho/Machi may be combined to mean"town."

[ (*) - designates a private company used POWs as slaves at this camp]

Notations added by Roger Mansell are in [brackets].
