SUBJECT: LETTER RE AFFIDAVITS FROM CPL D.L. GOODMAN ET AL.
TO: ADMINISTRATION DIVISION
1. Request that a letter be written securing an affidavit, executed
in proper form, by the ex-Prisoners listed below, setting forth
all available information concerning the indicated items at the
Nagoya Area Prisoner of War Camp Number Seven (7), Toyama, Japan.
2. It is reported that the Japanese compelled the prisoners to
continue working during air raid alerts and air raids; but that
after several protests the ruling was somewhat relaxed and the
prisoners could leave the factory when there was immediate danger.
There were many alerts and a number of raids. In two raids bombs
were dropped on the camp. On 20 July 1945 fourteen American prisoners
were injured; one (Robberson) [Roberson, Coda C.] serious and
the others rather minor. On August 2, 1945 there was another
raid. Considerable damage was done to the camp. There were no
identifying marks on the camp.
3. Each prisoner is requested to describe the Japanese air raid
precautionary regulations. The practice of continuing work during
the raids, actual raids, the raid of 20 July and 2nd August,
his personal experience and injury. In addition interrogate them
relative to whether used on military work there and what the
finished product was; and also any knowledge re the beating of
Hoyt, Wood, Raigain and others.
