I talked with my dad about my granddad (Richard Hayto), I found out he was in the East Anglian Regiment when they he was captured, unit found themselves in the sea. I suppose from a boat they were on, my granddad kept a friend of his (John Taylor) from drowning because he could not swim. He kept him above water until they were rescued by the friendly japs.

I don't really know much about his time as a POW or his experiences sadly my granddad died before I was born.

I would have really liked to have met him, thank you for not letting people forget what they went through before they got to come home.
