James McAnulty captured in the Battle of the Java Sea when his ship, the HMS Exeter was sunk. He was first taken to Makassar thence to Japan, first to Fukuoka #2 then to Fukuoka #26 (Aso Mining) around 10 May 1945. Post card below sent to his wife from Fukuoka #2. Although his wife Catherine was known as "Kate", he used "Catherine" to prevent any chance of the Japanese refusing to pass the postcard as his POW Index card would have shown her real name, not her nickname. For a simple "error" such as this, the Japanese would simply destroy the card.
