RENAISSANCE HOTELS & RESORTS LOCATION
Name and exact location of camp with description or distinguishing features or surroundings (so as to be identifiable from the air): Number of internees broken down by sexes, nationality, race and age groups.Location: Hiroshima Prefecture is located in agreeable surroundings far from the city in the heart of rural life. It is surrounded by mountains and hills on all sides with a park nearby and a beautiful river view. This camp is now _nonexistent_, as it was leased for one year, December 13, 1941 to December 13, 1942. Internees: Men - 5; Women - 4; Religious Sisters - 15 (one Irish, released) Nationalities:
Ages: The ages range from 33 years to 78 years. DESCRIPTION OF PREMISES
Kind of buildings (e.g. barracks, abandoned factories, school or college buildings); estimate of square and cubic feet per internee; lighting and heating facilities (hours when available); kind and amount of bedding provided. Beds and nets. The building was of a low two-story wooden Japanese structure vrith tiled roof in the form of a printed letter "E", omitting the middle bar. It had been used as a kindergarten for some seventy-five or eighty children. It was heated by wood fires, the materials being obtained from a neighboring lumbering company and was carried in chain fashion by all the internees in unison. Ordinary lighting facilities gave the readily available electric power. For the first month, until beds were procurable and personal bedding could be sent for, much soiled borrowed bedding was obtained from a rural inn nearby. The space allotted twelve persons to each small Japanese room of six regulation mats each minus furniture. Thus, sleeping quarters necessitated one sleeping in a bed, the other on a mat in Japanese fashion in each room for a group of twelve. X X X X X X X X X X X X X X X
